Feature Project: Management & Operations of LLW Repository Ltd (LLWR), UK | ϲʹ

As majority partner responsible for the management and operation of the Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR) in the UK, ϲʹ resolved an urgent need to expand waste disposal capacity, avoiding delays to UK’s decommissioning activity.

Sourcing an alternative LLWR site would have been a lengthy process with an expected cost of over £2 billion.

ϲʹ’s strategy involved fostering a collaborative approach with the customer and regulator, ultimately delivering upgrades to existing facilities and construction of an additional vault to extend the facilities operational life by 100 years.

In addition ϲʹ provided an additional 10 waste disposal and treatment routes, which avoided a further £455m in disposal costs.

ϲʹ has successfully decontaminated and decommissioned large scale, contaminated facilities.
